Mid-Quarter Exams

People think that Hawaii is the land were natures finest but since the foreigners came houses started to grow and expand. Over the past year the population increased 13,070 from the prior year. Total population in Hawaii right now is 1,374,810, and 68% of that isn’t even Hawaiian. People around the world think that we live in a exotic island with grass huts but in reality our beautiful mountains and green grass is now roads and thousands of houses.

Hawaii has a majority of people around the world who come and visit but end up staying. The highest amount is Asians, that’s 38.5% following them is the white which is 27.1% and African Americans with 2.4%. That’s 68% of non natives living in Hawaii, not counting Pacific islanders and Indians etc. with all these people follows more houses to be built that cover our `aina. Around 401,000 natives live in Hawaii our of 1,374,810. When our Hawaiians found this land and now they are over ruled. They put so much hard work in this island to make it the best and then foreigners changed everything.

Most of these people come to Hawaii for these main reasons. Weather , people, food and nature. When they first come here they stay on the side of the island that look like a fantasy. Clothing stores everywhere, beaches everywhere you go and people getting paid to say aloha and welcome etc. These  tourist should go all around the island and see the true heart of the island. Go and see what else is out there instead to staying in one spot and declare you will move here. Nature is a big reason why people want to move here but the more and more of them come the more houses need to be built and cove up our beautiful island.

One thing everyone need in this island is a car. Hawaii is in the top 10 states to have the worst traffic. Since we only have one freeway everything gets all jumbled there. And majority of those drivers are tourist. It just packs on and on with the other 1,374,810 people that drive. With all that traffic it just make pollution that makes another issue on this island. Hawaii should have a limit. We are just one small island with people trying to jam themselves in it.

To sum everything up Hawaii isn’t a perfect paradise. We have traffic like everyone else, houses live everyone else, and OVER POPULATION JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE.  Give us a break and a little bit of space.

Ocean Of Nothing

Fishermen need to stop over fishing and start making limitations. Over time one of our healthiest type of meats are going to e extinct. According to a marine biologist at Dalhouse Universityu in Halifax Canada, by the middle of this century, fishermen will have almost nothing left to catch

About 90% of the oceans big predators like cod and tuna have been fished out of existence, because of this its going to be too rare and expansive. Although the shrimp and fish farms  are filling the shortfall, though touted as a solution to overfishing many of them have along with rampant coastal development. The fisherman need to understand what is at steak when they go fishing. Some people only eat fish as there protein but if it gets more expansive some wont even be able to buy it. Also goes out for the fishermen, since things are getting expansive they could lose money.

Climate change and pollution devastated the reefs, mangroves and seagrass beds where many commercially valuable fish hatch.  There should be a month where fishermen can’t fish so the fish could have time to accumulate and grow. Worm argues that fishers based on ecosystems stripped of their biological diversity are especially prone to collapse. Atleast 29% of fished species have already collapsed, according to the study, and the trend is accelerating.

To sum everything off, fishermen should really think about what they are doing to the underwater world and how it affects everyone. The world is divided land walkers get dry land and the under water animals get the ocean. The fishermen should give respect to the ocean and consider limitation .

Graphic Card

My Special Place FINAL

There are trees as green like an alien and water so blue it felt like i was in a painting. As i drive by the famous Haleiwa sign the energy in the air just changes. My mind starts to wonder, all my stress and irritations just goes away. I feel like im free because all the weight i've been carrying just lifts off. Nothing to worry about and nothing to think about. As the heat of the shimmering sun warmths the sand and makes it feel so good as it rubs on my skin. Everything i've been worrying about the ocean can just take it away and help me forget. Instead of hearing people yelling and lecturing me there is just water crushing agents the monstrous rocks. All i see is surfer boys skid on the beautiful waves.

Sitting on the steaming yellow sand just relaxing to soft music on my iPod, eating the best spicy ahi bowl to fill my stomach up.As my mind goes blank it's wide open for everything and anything, i don't have to be afraid to be myself anymore because i know there is know one big to judge me. I'm to far away from my problems for it to hurt me. No one to impress, no one can judge. My pain and tear just suddenly don't exist anymore. It's just me and the beach, nothing can stop me from doing anything. As I lay down with my face up to the sun and the nice cool breeze just kiss my cheek, my mind starts to wonder to a different place . For once i don't have to be scared about zoning out because i know that it's okay to do it.

My body starts to heat up from the bright sun, my mind starts to wonder back. I sit up sweating from the heat the sun was bashing on my body. As i cross the sand my feet starts to touch the moister on the ground. My body takes a moment to realize the small things that's going on around me. Little kids learning how to swim, friends laughing there heads off, and surfers pummeling on waves. Walking deeper and deeper into the nice cool water i dip my head in and see the fish swimming around me, My mouth starts to curve up. The fish in the water just swim around not giving a care in the world. Nothing to think about or stress about except on whats going on at that very moment. Then thats what gets me thinking. I should be like a fish! Just focus on whats going at that very moment. Stop over thinking things.

To sum everything up haleiwa beach park is my special place because it's so far away fro hom and my problems i don't have to worry about anything anymore. It helps me feel undefeated and safe, its a place where i can fit in. A place i know everything is right. No thoughts, no stress. Just me and the water. It's something i appreciate in like and that i'm very grateful of.

Final Draft Roots and Recipe Essay

As I see a bright purple package defrosting in a container of boiling hot water i already know thats coming for me. A big pot of my mom's famous Ube! I remember watching my mom stirring the Ube around and around for multiple minutes, as i wine about how long its taking to finish. After a while i started to get curious and started to ask her, "when did you first try Ube? why did you decide to bring it to the family? "whats so special about it to have it at every party? who taught you how to make it?"my mother replied

I was 4 years old when i first tired Ube, The taste was un-explainable! A burst of sweet flavors rooming around my mouth with curiosity on how my sister made this wonderful desert taste so amazing. As i asked her she told me that it takes a lot of hard work and patience to make it perfect. After attempting my first try at it I could see why she said that! My first time i was sweating buckets and buckets because it took so long to get it to the form i want it to be and the longer i stir the thicker it gets which also helped me get good muscles. In the end it's all really worth it, obviously my first batch wasn't  very good, it was watery and not very sweet, but as time went by I did a lot more practice and trials until I finally got it to taste like the first time I ever tasted it. After i finally got it that day i try to make it as much as possible to make sure i goes down the family.
After she finished her story i got so inspired to try make my own, because how much my mom tried to make it perfect she stuck with it and she stride to make something  So my mom made her batch and then i made my own little batch. i added the Ube base, suger, and condenced milk. As i stir the ingredients together it get thicker and thicker which makes my hand go tired. As i remembered on how my mother rushed her first batch i knew to take my time, it was so hard as i watch the clock go by. Its like i can hear the hands moving every minute! and about 50 minutes of hard work and patients my very own batch of Ube was done! I was so exited to taste it, just knowing i did this all by myself. I grabbed the spoon dove it into the dark purple softness and then placed it in my mouth. There it was! flavors booming left and right in my mouth! I was so proud that i accomplished making my very own batch of Ube!

I remember watching my mom stiring the ube for multiple minutes and wining to her how its taking way to long and there has to be a way for it to cook faster. After a while i started to get curious and started to ask her questions. "When did you first get introduced to ube? Why did you deside to bring it into our family? who taught you how to make it? " She replied "I was 4 years old when i first tasted ube in my mouth, it tasted so amazing the burst of flavor and the texture of the food just amazed me. FOOD FOOD FOOD

The type of food I enjoy eating is sinigang, sinigang is a filipino soup which is my favorite! It contains beef and greens, the flavor is a little bit sour but thats okay makes it even better. Special Memories i have with it is, i remember that i would help my mom prepare to make it. I'd cut up all the leafy greens and put in the ma'ma sita in the pot and my mom would yell at me for putting to much! When ever i come home and see my mom making t i get so exited and i can just smell the meat boiling. Once it's finally finish I take my fist bite and it feels so good when the hot soup goes down my  througt and the flavors just burst out of no where! The person i plan on interviewing is my mom because she always makes the best in the whole world!
